A banana, not a banana, has the highest protein intake

New Zealanders are typically advised to eat a minimum of 25 grams of protein a day, with around half of that coming from meat.

But that doesn’t tell the whole story.

Nutrition information for New Zealanders, which was published in January, found that almost half of the population are overweight, which makes them particularly vulnerable to the effects of obesity.

The average weight of New Zealander is now more than 6ft (1.2m) and the country has more than half the world’s population.

Nutritional advice for New Kiwis is based on the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, which says to eat about half a kilogram (2.4lb) of carbohydrates a day.

The National Health and Medical Research Council recommends eating a minimum 200 grams (62pence) of protein and 20 grams of carbohydrates each day.

“It’s pretty obvious that a lot of our diet needs to change, but the issue of eating less protein is really hard to address,” Professor Michael Rees, from the University of Auckland, who led the review, said.

“There’s a real need to look at how we can achieve a more healthy diet.”

The data shows that our national diet has a lot more protein than is recommended.

“We’re not eating enough protein, and it’s not just about eating fewer carbs.”

A study by Dr Rebecca Williams of the University in Otago found that the most commonly consumed protein in New Kiwians diet was eggs.

The study found that New Zealandans ate about 14 eggs a day and the average New Zealand household was eating about 6 eggs a week.

“If we’re trying to avoid the worst effects of anorexia, then there’s no reason why we should not be aiming for a balanced diet,” Dr Williams said.

New Kiwis are also a good source of vitamins A, C and E, she said.

A study from the Australian National University found that a diet high in fruit, vegetables and whole grains had been shown to reduce the risk of developing type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

However, Professor Rees said that the research did not take into account the many different foods eaten in New New Zealand.

“A lot of the fruit, veg and whole grain, vegetables we eat, and that’s what people are looking at, is the ones that are the least likely to cause us to become overweight and to have higher cholesterol and to develop heart disease and all these sorts of things,” he said.

Dr Williams said that it was important that New Kiwes could choose to eat more protein, but added that “there’s no need to put everything on a plate”.

“People need to choose what they eat and they need to have their own choices and they shouldn’t be putting all their eggs on a single plate.”

The New Zealand Nutrition Survey, published in February, also found that most people were not getting enough calcium, vitamins and minerals.

New Zealander David Willett, who works for the Government Nutrition Centre, said New Zealand should also consider raising the age of consent in New Zealand from 16 to 18.

“At that age, you can legally have sex with someone who is under the age for consent,” he told Newshub.

New Zealands government said it was not able to comment on the report.
